Overview
The Ancient Construct is a boss added in the 2.2 Patch. The Construct can easily take out most unarmored units and even most Tanks due to its high armor piercing Gatling Lasers. It is also immune to -effects and -effects, and highly resistant to all damage except explosive-type damage ().
Defeating the Ancient Construct can yield rare rewards, such as the Sinister and Dexter Fragment. It's worth noting "Sinister" and "Dexter" are old words for "left" and "right" respectively, relating to the Construct's arms.
Percival says in a mission that this monstrosity used to be an ancient garbage cleaner, and by attacking it, you've awakened the ancient security defense system, the Ancient Sentinel. This upsets Lt. Morgan, thinking he lost troops fighting a garbage cleaner.
The Ancient Construct re-spawns every 168 hours (1 week). On the day you beat it for the first time, you can immediately battle it again as he turns into a separate occupation spot on the map when the Ancient Sentinel spawns.
It is worth noting that the vertical Gatling Laser attack only attacks 2 units if there is a blocking unit in the front row.

Strategy
Players have found several strategies that work to defeat the Ancient Construct. There are a few things to keep in mind before trying any of them, however. The Ancient Construct can wipe out units very quickly (even very strong units), be prepared to lose a few units. Battling it is NOT recommended for players unprepared for repair and/or heal costs or for those that do not own a significant army to take the Construct down.
Common strategy:

Requires:
Set up:
Tanks are used as meat shields, and rarely to attack the Construct. First, attack with the second row (Tank Killers). When you've used all three attacks, use a Tank shot to destroy the "The Rock". This allows for the backrow Tank Killer to attack. Once all Tank Killers are reloading, attack with one of your tanks. When the Radio Tech's Precise Strike is charged (6 turn prep) use it on the Construct. By front-loading the damage and controlling the initial results (by retreating and repeating), losses can be minimized. It's also possible to use only high rank Tanks and a Radio Tech. |
Alternative strategy with little to no casualties and without the use of Nanopods but using Stars instead:

Use 4 Bigfoots (preferably Rank 2+) and 3 Allied Mammoth Riders (Rank 3+). Place the Bigfoots and one Mammoth Rider in the front row and the remaining 2 Mammoth Riders in the second row (one behind the Bigfoot in the middle). In the last row you place a Radio Tech. Attack the Construct with the Mammoth Riders until you can use the Radio Tech. Occasionally a Bigfoot dies which is not a big casualty if you have a good supply of Teeth and if a Mammoth Rider dies it's only Gold. You might want to destroy the Rock and attack with a Bigfoot if a Mammoth Rider dies before the Radio Tech is ready. To minimize the casualties just rank up the Bigfoots.
A slight change in this strategy can also be used. Place three Bigfoots (Rank 3+) in the front row with one space in between each Bigfoot. Place three Tank Killers (Rank 4+) behind each Bigfoot, and a Radio Tech (any rank works) in the very last row behind the middle Bigfoot. The formation is now complete, though you have an extra unit you can place. Bear in mind that the extra eighth unit is generally not even needed to win the battle. Rank 6 Wimps are recommended, due to their high damage output and low heal costs. Tanks can also be used, though you will be taking a risk of landing it in the Repair Bay. Fire all three Tank Killers at the Ancient Construct. If an unfired Tank Killer is destroyed, you have the option to retreat or keep fighting. If your Radio Tech is Rank 2 or higher, there is not much need to retreat unless the other two Tank Killers miss several shots. Your Bigfoots should not be taking too much damage at this point, thanks to their extremely high resistance to -type damage. After unloading your Tank Killers, either attack the Ancient Construct with your extra unit (if you brought one), or simply pass turns. When your Radio Tech has completed the 6 turn prep time for its Precise Strike attack, use it on the Ancient Construct for a lot of damage. |
Strategy without the use of Nanopods and Stars.

Put 3 Heavier Tanks (Rank 3+) in the front row and put a Frontier Chucker (Rank 4+) and a Tank Killer (Rank 3+) behind two of the Tanks. Place 3 more Chuckers in the back row. First attack with the Tank Killers, then continuously fire the Chuckers. You might lose a Heavier Tank or two. |
Strategy with low-rank Nanopod units:

Use 4 Mega Tanks (Rank 1), 2 Mammoth Tanks (Rank 1) and 4 Guerrillas in the back. Place the Mega Tanks and Mammoth Tanks in a checker formation or in the front row to protect the back. |
